FORD SITE UPDATE – November 5, 2015
SITE DEMOLITION UPDATE:– April 2015
Building and slab demolition on the main campus of Ford’s former assembly plant site is complete.
The removal of remaining foundation and features found below the soil will continue throughout the spring and summer. Environmental testing will occur simultaneously as soils are exposed. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is closely tracking the environmental work, with weekly visits to the site to oversee the activities.
Future environmental remediation at the site will occur on an as-needed basis under plans approved by the MPCA.
Soil and concrete that is clean enough for reuse is being re-utilized on the property for grading and fill. Vegetative seeding will occur in late 2015 and early 2016. Some concrete crushing will resume on site in the coming months, and loose soils will be watered regularly to manage dust.
REGIONAL MEETING RECAP – NOVEMBER 10, 2014
Over 200 people attended a regional public meeting held on November 10.
After hearing updates from city and county officials, residents provided their input and engaged with staff working on key urban design and planning activities that focus on energy, jobs, transportation, public space, and zoning.

The next regional meeting will be held in spring 2015 and \will present zoning ideas for the site.
What’s Next
Several key initiatives are underway to prepare and position the Ford site for the national stage in late 2015 when Ford Land anticipates issuing a Request for Proposals for a Master Developer.
- Ford is progessing with decomissioning of the site. Environmental testing results are expected in mid-2015.
- An energy and sustainability study evaluating how renewable energy resources as well as energy efficient technologies can help achieve a site with a minimal energy use profile is underway. Ramboll Energy is conducting the study to evaluate options to include renewable, on-site energy generation.
- City staff is working on azoning and public realm planfor the site with the hope of making a recommendation to the Planning Commission at the end of 2015.
- More community meetingswill be held in 2015. Stay tuned for details.
As Ford’s former Twin Cities Assembly Plant is redeveloped in the coming years, a 21st Century Community will emerge on the more than 125 acres of land situated along the Mississippi River. Saint Paul residents have spoken loud and clear: this site will be a livable, mixed use neighborhood that looks to the future with clean technologies and high quality design for energy, buildings and infrastructure. This site will support walking, biking and transit, and provide services, jobs and activities that every generation can enjoy. A 21st Century Community is about to unfold.
