To help our Highland businesses during this challenging time, the Highland District Council is starting a new “Business of the Month” program. Each month, we’ll profile a different business.
The October Business of the Month is Quixotic Coffee, which opened in December of 2014. They are a mellow, woodsy hangout featuring cold-brew coffees, espresso drinks and other N/A beverages on-tap, pastries, plus Wi-Fi.
Owner Jake Nelson purchased the coffee shop in December of 2014, after leaving his corporate job to pursue a rapidly expanding cold brew coffee business. Originally from Richfield, MN, Jake spent some time in Arizona and has held several jobs in supply chain and finance, but Quixotic, he says has been the most fun.
Stop in today, and you’ll find a range of local and regionally sourced treats to please everyone in the family, including:
- Locally roasted Bootstrap Coffee
- All in-house made syrups, and milk from Autumnwood Farms
- An assortment of pastries from Patisserie 46 and Sift Gluten Free
- A variety of kombucha’s on tap from Deane’s and Bootlegger
- Loose-leaf tea from Rishi, and tea on tap from Jinx Tea
Try one of their seasonal drinks like the pumpkin spice sweet cream cold brew, or the salted caramel apple latte through the end of October (and possibly a week or two into November). While Quixotic’s friendly staff prepares your hot or cold beverage of choice, you can even check out some of their wall art, featuring the creative works of our community’s artists.
Like many businesses, the closures and restrictions of COVID posed challenges for Quixotic, namely limiting hours, and reduced offerings, but Jake says they were able to pivot quickly and continue serving through their online ordering and to-go options. “The community was really supportive,” Jake said, and with the easing of restrictions, his team is now happy to welcome customers back for indoor seating, and possibly start expanding hours and menu offerings.
