To help our Highland businesses during this challenging time, the Highland District Council launched a “Business of the Month” program, profiling a different business each month.
This June, we are happy to feature Kim’s Kitchen as Business of the Month. Located on Randolph Avenue, Kim’s Kitchen is a family-owned Chinese food establishment that has been part of the Highland community since 2009.
Stanley Wong—known to his friends as “Stan”—is the proud owner of Kim’s Kitchen. He grew up in Highland, and his family has always been in the restaurant business. His grandfather owned a restaurant, which was passed on to his mother and then to him. When that business was sold, he took some time off before finding their current location in his favorite neighborhood of Highland.
Stan describes himself as a simple person with a simple menu, but take a glance at their offerings and you’ll find no shortage of popular items—egg rolls, cream cheese wontons, Chow Mein and Cantonese stir-fried specialties just to name a few. Kim’s Kitchen tries to accommodate special requests like food allergies and gluten-free options as much as possible.
When reflecting on the past year, Stan said owning a restaurant during the pandemic has been “a surreal experience.” There were a lot of things they’ve had to do differently because of the different guidelines, and they had to learn as they went. Their dining room is currently closed to leave room for social distancing and likely won’t reopen for a while, but plans can change every day. Until then, Kim’s Kitchen and takeout is still very much open for business!
