To help our Highland businesses during this challenging time, the Highland District Council launched a “Business of the Month” program, profiling a different business each month.
As America celebrates National Ice Cream Month, we’re happy to feature Cold Front, as July’s Business of the Month! Located near the intersection of Hamline and Randolph avenues, Cold Front is your friendly neighborhood ice cream shop that has been serving up cold treats, coffee and made-to-order fountain drinks since 2014.
Owner Kyle Farizel took over the locally owned ice cream shop in October of 2020, after managing the business for four years. Originally from Colorado, Kyle has an extensive background in the service industry including fine dining in Aspen and Houston, but Cold Front, he says, has been the most fun.
Stop in today, and you’ll find a range of local and regionally sourced treats to please everyone in the family, including:
- Ice cream sourced regionally from Wisconsin,
- Locally roasted Bootstrap coffee,
- Chai and fountain drinks made in-house from scratch,
- Baked goods from La Boulangerie Marguerite, and
- Gluten-free baked goods from Sift.
Try some a customer favorite like “This $&@! Just Got Serious” ice cream (salted caramel ice cream with sea salt fudge and salted cashews) or a Bootstrap Milkshake (vanilla ice cream with a double shot of espresso). While Cold Front’s friendly staff dish up your favorite treat, you can even check out their art wall, featuring the creative works of our community’s artists.
Like many businesses, the closures and restrictions of COVID posed challenges for Cold Front, but Kyle says they were able to pivot quickly and continue serving through their online ordering and to-go options. “The community was great,” Kyle said, and with the easing of restrictions, his team is now happy to welcome customers back for indoor seating.
