COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING
May 19, 2008
Members of the Highland District Council Community Development Committee (CDC) met at the Hillcrest Recreation Center, 1978 Ford Parkway, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55116, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008. Members present were: Shawn Barsh, Steve Lentsch, Dan Smith and Marilyn Tamsky. Not present were: Layne Carver and Ted Davis Also present: Paul KrechPresentation by Anytime Fitness
Mark Daly with Anytime Fitness gave a presentation to the committee on the Anytime Fitness Club model. He indicated members have access to the clubs 24 hours per day, but the clubs are not staffed during the late evening/ early morning hours. He spoke about the safety of the clubs with regards to entrance security, on site cameras and the medical response in case of an accident. He also discussed the difference between their clubs and an illegal massage club and indicated they were working with city staff to draft an ordinance that would allow them to continue operating as they have been in the past without staff during the late evening hours. They provide for full police access to both the club and the security comeras at any time.Selection of Community Members
The Community Services Committee elected John McDonald, Tia Anderson and Greg Campbell as community members and will recommend their appointment to the board. Roger Maulik, Claudia Dieter and Cynthia Kerr were elected as alternates. Their seating designation will be decided at the next meeting.Election of Committee Leadership
Shawn Barsh was elected as Community Development Committee Chair at the first meeting of the committee.
