Sept 1-4 - Republican National Convention (RNC)
September 7 - St Paul Bike Classic - Register for the Classic and call the HDC office and get an awesome Highland Park T-shirt at a great price. Lots of colors to choose from. 651-695-4005 Sept 8 - Community Services Meeting - 7:00 pm Hillcrest Rec Center Some members of the Committee will meet at Homecroft school at 6:15 pm to take a walking tour of the path and bridge along the Railroad tracks. Then will move to Hillcrest for the meeting. Patrick Quinn with SPPS and Kevin Nelson, Bridge Engineer with St Paul Public Works will be there to answer questions.
Sept 11 - HDC Board Meeting at Hillcrest Rec Center Warming Room Amy Gage the Director of Marketing and Communication with the College of St Catherine will be there to introduce herself and talk about their plans. Sept 15 - Transportation Committee Meeting (tentative) - look at the flyer to be distributed and discuss the best means of communication with the neighbors for the Bike Blvd Sept 22 - Community Development Meeting - 6:30 pm Hillcrest Rec Center Rob Meira with Verizon, a representative from the St Paul Water Board and St Paul Park and Rec will be there to discuss the placement of an Antenna on the Highland Water Tower and a ground building to house a generator. Transportation Update Highland Parkway Bike Blvd - please go to the web site to give your input, look at the plans, the proposed budget and to find out general information about what a Bike Boulevard is. Community Input - we have had only 32 people vote, and of those 32 we have 15 households against the Blvd, 17 households for We are working with Traffic to get FAQ's posted and have impact studies done. | Community Services Update Crime Prevention- Alisha has been working on a Block Club Leader List and has over 100 names she can contact to help build the crime report and to establish stong neighborhood watch programs. The next meeting is going to focus on the Homecroft Foot Bridge down by Homecroft and the JCC. St Paul Public Schools and Public Works will be looking at the site with some members of the Committee, the intent is to put a plan in place to help clean up the area and make it safer. |
Community Development Update Verizon Wireless Tower and Building Rob Miera the rep for Verizon will be meeting with the water department, the golf course & the Highland Arena before the next meeting. Then the CDC can look closer at the plans for the building to house the generator.

| Crime Update for those of you that don't receive the Crime Report we wanted to update you on the high rate of Burglaries that are ocurring around Highland. There were 4 along the Mississippi River Blvd last week and a couple along the 1800 block of Hillcrest over the past weekend. Please be aware of who is in your neighborhood, make sure to close and lock your doors and windows even during the day. They are cutting screens or just walking into homes. Please call the police when you see suspicious activity. Oasis Gas Station on Ford Pkwy A woman was robbed of her purse while putting air in the tire of her car. It happened in the late morning on Tuesday Sept 2. The man is described as having tan skin, between 17 and 27 with dreadlocks in his hair. He ran through the walkway onto Pinehurst and jumped in a yellow toyato and drove away. Please call the police if you see someone matching that description. |
| West 7th Business Association -please respond if there is any interest from the board Golf Outing There has been a good deal of interest in the proposed West 7th Business Association Golf Tournament ... but not quite enough yet to move forward with concrete plans. PLEASE reply to this email ASAP and let us know if you are interested (details below)! This event is for W7BA members -- and anyone else interested in playing. It is meant to be mostly a social/networking event, but will also benefit the West 7th Boys Club. At this point we are gauging level of interest before we make it "official" ... Tentative date: Friday October 3rd. Location: Highland 18 Shot gun start at 1pm. Buffet at Champps to follow.

Friends of the Mississippi River St. Paul tours and talks Enjoy a free river travel tales presentation and walking tour (Sun. Sept. 14th, 2-4 p.m.), a free raingarden tour (Mon., Sept. 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m.), a free historical ruins tour (Sat. Sept. 27, 1-3 p.m.) -- or all three! Registering at your earliest convenience is highly encouraged for the raingarden and ruins tours. Details on all, including how to sign up, are below. If you're eager for some hands-on restoration work, we are in need of volunteers at a clean up on the 20th and native seed collection training and gathering on the 27th, both roughly 25 miles south of the cities.
